Hi, Everyone! BBA Vendor girl here...

Just checking in - we have a vendor opportunity coming up in December, and a wonderful 2nd Friday planned for this week!

Also, I wanted to let everyone know that Paperjam Press is celebrating its first anniversary, and in honor of that, they are having a party!  This Friday ~ November 12th from 5 - 9 pm! Not only will there be birthday cake, tasty snacks, champagne & drinks, BUT, they are doing discounts AND 20% off all orders placed that night - so if you have any postcards or business cards that need to be printed, this is a great time to get those done! I had my business cards printed by Paperjam, and they do a great job on color matching for art cards.

2nd Friday is happening up and down Fremont this Friday night and this month many shops are having events inside, so if you're looking for some inexpensive entertainment, come out and join us!

ShopAdorn is having a trunk show, BottlesNW is hosting a special beer event, Amenity Shoes is having a sale, and Found will also be open late!

Now, here's the info about the December event on Friday, December 10th from 5 - 9 pm. Info below. If you or some crafty person you know is looking for a venue to sell their handmade goods, let me know! Our upcoming Winter Wonderland / Fremont Festival of Lights was featured in the Handmade in Portland "Portland Holiday Craft Show Roundup!" Wahoo!

"Our Fremont Festival of Lights event will be held on Friday, December 10th, 5-9 pm. Our local Portland Fire Dept will be escorting Santa on top of one of their fire engines! As Santa passes down the street the lights will be lit in the trees. When he arrives he will disembark to his “Winter Wonderland Festival Tent” so that kids of all ages can visit and have photos taken with Santa. Up and down the street, there will be signs of Christmas everywhere!

Carolers from the Presbyterian Church of Laurelhurst will be singing to herald the arrival of the holidays. The Dickens Carolers and bagpipe players are also slated to perform. Friday & Saturday will also be our Shop Hop! We are encouraging all the shops to stay open late and invite shoppers into their stores with hot chocolate, cookies and other delights; and don’t forget to stop by Soluna Grill to get your bag of Chestnuts roasted on the open fire! Vendors are invited to our vendor pod next to Santa’s tent where they can sell their items. The BBA is sponsoring a Holiday Window Decorating Contest as well…"

Vendor Details:
the Winter Wonderland Vendor Tent will be located at the corner of 41st and Fremont
(the main intersection) in the courtyard of Foot Traffic
Vendor space in the tent is $15 per 4 x 8 (bring your own table & chairs)
We will have a 20 x 40 ft tent with heaters, but space is limited!
If you would like to bring your own 10 x 10 popup tent, you may do so
and set up along side the large tent
10 x 10 spaces are $30

Depending on how much interest we have for Saturday, we may be able to extend the vendor opportunity to Saturday as well. For now, however, it is set up for Friday night, December 10 from 5 - 9 pm. Set up will begin at 4 pm. If you require additional set up time, please let me know.

Thanks so much! If you know of anyone else who might like to know about the event, then please pass this along to them. I hope this finds all of you out there happy, healthy & staying warm as our winter weather approaches!

'Lots happening around town! Call(s) for Vendors!

Hi, Everyone! Your local vendor girl checking in... I just wanted to give you a heads up on the events that are going on in and around our neighborhood in the near future! If you are a vendor, if you are crafty, or if you know someone who is, you might like the following info!

Fremont Bridge in Fall...
9.29.10: PDX ETSY Meeting
Tonight, Tuesday September 29th, there's a PDX Etsy event at Environments / 707 SE Belmont @ 7pm. $5 at the door provides refreshments!  I'll be joining the fearless PDX Etsy leaders, Janelle and Nicole, for an evening of resource sharing. If you'd like to participate, please let Nicole know - she can be reached at nmkluthe@gmail.com. If you cannot join us tomorrow night, please drop Nicole a line to be put on the list for future events - it's a great way to meet and network with other artists in the area, share information, and get your name out there!

10.08.10 & 10.09.10: Fremont/BBA Harvest Fest
Friday, October 8 from 5pm - 9pm and Saturday, October 9 from 10am- 5pm is the Fremont Harvest Festival! Lots of new and exciting developments for this event, most notably that the PR and advertising for this (and our future events) is now being handled by Mandy Zelinka and Nicole Whitesell, a dynamic duo. They are absolutely all over the advertising and PR, and very well connected. I can't wait to see what transpires, but rest assured that this event has tons of coverage, and has already been noted in Portland Picks Facebook site, there's a new website for the BBA up (www.beaumontbba.com) that will include a list of all vendors participating, and there will be additional advertising in local papers. We're still going strong on Facebook (Beaumont Business Association) and Twitter (@beaumontbizpdx) Captured by Porches Brewing Co, Wanderlust Mobile Vintage, Pacific NW artist Sally Reichlin, and local food carts are all participants. We'll have a pumpkin patch, kids costume portraits and costume contest, and games and activities for kids and families... The restaurants on our street will be welcoming visitors with specials, and our three newest additions, Barile Wine Bar, Noho Hawaiian and Bottles NW are now open! Vendor spaces are still only $15 - we strive to make this a vendor-friendly event, and want as many of you who can to participate! If you haven't already sent in your application, I'm attaching one here to this email. If you have any questions at all about the vendor opportunities, please don't hesitate to contact me at emilyd13@gmail.com.

You can download the BBA Events Vendor Application here.

And, for those who may not have gotten into Crafty Wonderland, or who are looking for more holiday events in which to participate, these are the events on my radar:

11.12.10
November 2nd Friday on NE Fremont as hosted by the Beaumont Business Association... Our monthly event from 5 pm - 9 pm, drawing friends and neighbors into the streets of our sweet neighborhood... We have lots of exciting new restaurants open - this is a perfect time to get a jump on the holiday shopping crowd!

11.14.10
Abernethy Craft Fair
"Art & Craft Sale Fundraiser Sun, Nov 14th, 11-4pm: looking for artists & crafters.  Individual vendors take care of their own transactions.  20% goes to the school.  This is a juried event. Check out last years' poster; www.artcraftfair.org,  with links to artists websites.  This year we are hoping to add 9 artist high res photos to the poster and postcard.  Advertising will include, but not be limited to website, internal school marketing, Facebook, DIY- Alert News, SE Examiner, The Bee, Craig's List,  postcards, posters & banner. We have space for approx 50+ vendors, so this will be a nice event! Email Abernethycraftfair@yahoo.com to request the vendor application, as well as the vendor agreement. Applications are due Friday, October 1st." Your vendor contact for this event is Elita Hill of Ginza Girl Skirts.

12.03.10 through 12.05.10 5th Annual Holiday Bazaar - a great tradition in my neck of the woods, this intimate & well attended event is held in the NE Portland neighborhood of Alameda. Email Andrea Sten for more information: asten@hevanet.com

12.04.10 Laurelhurst School Winter Artisan Bazaar 9 am - 5 pm - email Violet Craft for more information at laurelhurstschoolbazaar@gmail.com:  Marketing... bigger, better and more! We will again continue our print advertisement in the Oregonian's list of holiday bazaars as well as our email marketing campaign with Portland Picks. Last year we distributed 5000 postcards by hand to every house in Laurelhurst. This year there will be 10,000 postcards available to distribute and are available for you to distribute as well. We are bringing on a PR volunteer to get us on every social calendar we can find. Advertisements are starting to pop up in Upcoming Events listings around town and our marketing team is busily preparing to distribute those 10000 postcards and many posters around Portland. We again have a team of volunteers canvassing the Laurelhurst neighborhood door to door with postcards as well. There will be an advertisement in the upcoming Oregonian bazaar's listing and Portland Picks will be "picking" us on Friday before the event.

We expect a very busy turnout for the day! Last year we were PACKED all day long and we've expanded our space this year to allow for even more shoppers! We know that there will be a limited number of open spaces this year and hope to fill them with the best of the best! We are taking applications from the community at large, but if you know of someone that you think would be perfect for the event, please pass along Violet's information to them or their information to Violet :) The application is available here.

12.10.10 (possibly through 12.12.10) December Holiday event on NE Fremont street in conjunction with 2nd Friday in December, hosted by the Beaumont Business Association - details will be announced as they develop - let me know if you are interested and I will keep you posted.

And, last but not least, Bargain Hunting 101 is now accepting vendor applications for their February event:
Bargain Hunting 101
Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7 (a.k.a. Super Bowl Sunday)
The Crystal Ballroom and Lola’s Room
1332 W. Burnside St.

Open Letter to Vendors & Stores!

Hello, Etsy peeps & creative souls!

As many of you may know, we are continuing with the 2nd Fridays on Fremont - Fremont Fest in August was FANTASTIC! Because of the success of Fremont Fest, we have recently decided to expand the events in October and December to 2 and 3 day events, respectively. October's 2 day event will be a harvest festival theme, and the three day December event (10th - 12th) will include another shop hop; much like the event some of you were involved in on June 18th of this year. (Store owners, please let me know if you'd like to be included in December's shop hop and I will keep you posted!). If you know of someone who might appreciate an opportunity to participate, feel free to forward this email to them!

We are currently doing a call for vendors, so if you are interested I have included the information here for your perusal. The vendor fee remains $15 per table per day - a modest cost to cover some of the advertising for these ongoing events. We have had our event featured in PDXPipeline, Portland Mercury Northside Guide, Hollywood Star, BWNA Newsletter, on PDX Events, in the PDX Neatsheet, and have advertised in Portland Picks, just to name a few. We are constantly striving to generate more buzz and provide a great value to our vendors.

Recently I met with the PDX Etsy group, and many from that meeting have expressed interest as well. If we have enough vendors for October, we can consider closing down part of the street to traffic - something that was done this August to rave reviews for our Fremont Fest.

Please email me for the application, and fill out & return to Jackie Safko at Albina Bank if you'd like to participate!

As always, I am dedicated to providing assistance, networking and general support to our Etsy & handcraft vendors, and the community of shops who support them!  Please let me know if you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions. I love to hear from you!

Fremont Fest Meeting Tuesday!

It's planning time! Tuesday night @ 5 pm (at Amalfi's), we will be holding another Fremont Fest Meeting. These meetings really help all of the committees come together and plan a great Festival for all of our neighbors and friends in the Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood, and surrounding area.

The poster is done, and plans are on track for several exciting events at the Festival, including the Kid's Bike & Pet parade, a Fremont Fest Run (5K for everyone, and a special 1 mile for kids), a homemade Salsa Challenge, a cake contest and cake walk, horse & carriage rides, bounce houses & crafts for the kids,  and live music throughout the day on different stages.

We have some wonderful vendors lined up, including some delicious food! If you would like to be a vendor, we are still taking applications - we want to give everyone plenty of time to join up! If you are interested in being a vendor at the Fremont Fest, or for more information, please contact emilyd13 {at} gmail {dot} com.

Featured Vendor at 2nd Friday!

Spotlight on Donna and John McLean, of Laughing Fridge Magnets, a couple of baby boomers who discovered how much fun it is to create!

Donna says "We started making silly magnets as gifts for family, and decided to see if others liked our crazy craft. We have very different styles of painting. John has a vivid imagination and isn't afraid of color. I think his style would be considered primitive or naive. I lean more towards "cuteness" and don't have any idea what my style is!

Our dog Hannah is the inspiration for our wonderful wiener magnets, and our old cat Indy is the model for our fat cats. We both design the shapes of the magnet, and John cuts them out using his scroll saw. Each magnet is made of birch plywood, painted with acrylics, sprayed with lacquer, and has a flat magnet attached. They are numbered, signed and dated on the back. We both paint, and offer each other constructive criticism, which is either listened to or not.

We have a great time creating our magnets together and hope they make you smile!"

Donna and John have been fixtures at our 2nd Fridays on Fremont, and always have great smiles for the passersby.

You can find them tomorrow on NE Fremont at the July 2nd Friday, and on their Etsy shop. Always posting cheerful magnets, you can follow them on Twitter @laughingfridge.

Fremont Fest: Saturday, August 7, 2010

Open call for vendors!

If you would like to be a vendor at the Beaumont-Wilshire Neighborhood Fremont Fest, please contact me at emilyd13 {at} gmail {dot} com!

Tons of foot traffic, great location, fantastic people to work with! We have a LOT of fun together at the 2nd Fridays, and Fremont Fest is like the hugest 2nd Friday ever. Except not a Friday at all, cause it's on Saturday, August 7th.

But you get the point. There are tons of families and people in our neighborhood who look forward to this event each year, and each year, we do our best to provide the best experience possible for our neighbors and visitors!

If you make crafty stuff, soaps, jewelry, clothing, lotions, dog collars, shoes, fresh jam, bread, etc., then let us know!

As Christine from GreenDog Pet Supply says, Fremont Fest "is a super fun day of celebration in Beaumont Village. If you haven't been to a Fremont Fest before, you should really try to come down. There will be lots of live music along the street, artists and craftspeople, sidewalk sales, face painting, horse and carriage rides, and of course the parade!!! The fest kicks off at 10 a.m. with a really cute neighborhood parade: about 100 kids turn out on their decorated bicycles, the music will be playing, usually some classic cars and the Fire Truck join us, and of course there's the Pet Parade!!  Costumes are optional, but if you wear one you'll be eligible for a best costume prize! (Feel free to decorate their leashes or yourselves instead of your dogs if you like or just come as you are) Other prizes will also be awarded for best trick, most enthusiastic marcher, etc! We'll be gathering between 9:30 and 10 am at the Beaumont Middle School, and the parade starts promptly at 10."

There will be a pub crawl, salsa challenge, cake walk, and all sorts of other fun to get into!

We'd love to have you!

Sun is shining, get ready!

What a glorious afternoon! So many of you were out visiting this afternoon & it was wonderful to see you! The season for dining al fresco is upon us, and there are some exciting changes along the Fremont corridor that you will enjoy! We're all looking forward to the spring weather coming up. ChaChaCha is planning an outdoor beer garden, Vinideus continues to engage us with French and music programs, GreenDog Pet Supply is planning a move to a larger space, Soluna's delicious menu beckons to us, and Amenity Shoes is jam packed with beautiful accessories and sandals for the sunny weather that lies ahead.

When you're out and about, please take note of your favorite businesses, and support local shops and restaurants as the economy turns around. We can't do it without you, and your loyalty and continued support are invaluable to us. Found on Fremont reports new customers who are fast becoming regulars, there are people enjoying the tables outside at Alameda Cafe and the Alameda Brew Pub, and ShopAdorn's Grand Opening in April was a huge success! Have you stocked up on your all natural beauty supplies? The sun is coming, and Emily at Camellia has everything you need to keep your skin safe and soft!

We were thrilled at the turnout for April's premier 2nd Friday on Fremont, and all signs point to a bustling 2nd Friday on May 14! If you're in the neighborhood, we would love to see you! There are so many wonderful businesses along our corridor who will stay open late, it would be a shame to miss any of it! In addition to the specials, live music, and late hours, this 2nd Friday will feature several additional vendors, including JamPDX, a very talented pottery duo who use traditional clay and *cake decorating* techniques to create exquisite vases, bowls, and other pieces; Anderson Soap Company, handmade soaps and lotions; and several other vendors, including sublime items from Provence, France, and there a monthly crafts table sponsored by SCRAP! Kid and family friendly, delicious food, glorious shopping... What more could we offer?

Join us Friday, May 14 for 2nd Friday... The fun and festivities begin at 5 pm!
